List Writing - Is There a Psychology Behind It?
There's a wonderful essay by the French writer Georges Peric who was fascinated by lists. There is also every time you tick off something on a list a tiny release of dopamine in your brain and people attest to that. They say they feel an immense sense of satisfaction when they tick off an item but also when they actually tick off the entire list. So I think lists can be very inducing because we have so many items on a to-do list. Doug's Newbury Port is a huge long 1,000 page whoop out of a book of 2019. It's a sort of stream of consciousness of a middle-aged American woman who just thinks and has long lists again brand names
