Investing in the Public Markets

Investor sentiment is a big part of the reason why venture funds have done so well in recent years. Pension funds and endowments also give money to start-ups, but when public markets fall they want to pull back. So there's a mechanism by which the current public markets transmit into the private markets. But it doesn't make very much sense if people were more cognizant of both the emotional reaction and this mechanism.
