The Importance of Empathy in the Intelligence Process

The one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter, as they'll say. I'm not suggesting that we forgive what we believe to be terrorism because it's somebody rebelling against something. But understanding it through the perspective of the actor might give us a different perspective and therefore a different reaction to it. And this additional one we just added, which is the need for empathy in the overall approach, makes me feel like a really difficult job analytics in national security is getting more and more difficult.
