Many ancient cultures throughout history not only accepted auto-castration, but sometimes encouraged it. Young male slaves with smaller bodies or smaller built would willingly cut off their testicles. It was a way to escape the life of hard labor that more masculine strong men endured. Eunuchs were assigned to protect and care for the women of the house because they were believed to not be interested in sex.
