Since the time of Descartes, it is widely believed that we don't have any direct access to the external world. But when I look at an apple, I don't see the apple. I see an image of the apple in my own mind or there is something in between me and the external world so that I can't get to it. And this is just very important for the Christian faith. Yes. To have an experience is to already be out in the world itself. So by paying careful attention to your experiences of hearing God's voice or thinking you did and you were wrong, you can learn the processes that you go through to become aware that it is God speaking to you
