The New Visa Restrictions on the East German Border
Tens of thousands of East Germans flocked to the checkpoints, demanding to be let through into the West. It's a tense situation and one that could easily turn bloody. Gorbachev orders his own troops to remain in their barracks,. If the East German forces make a move against their citizens gathering at the border, they will have to do so without Moscow's support.
