Cosmic Microwave Background - The Big Bang Smoking Gun
Anna Penzius and some Wilson discovered the CMB. They were the first guys to point a instrument that the sky and detect in all directions. There's 2.7 Kelvin temperature so that empty space was not completely devoid of energy, but contained heat. The early universe would have been just as uniform as the heat left over from the Big Bang.
