Is There a Difference Between Syriac and Aramaic?

In the Septuagint, both agape and fileo are used to translate the same Hebrew word for love. In the Syriac version of the New Testament, only one verb is used to translate everything in this John 21 passage. Brent Billings: If as seems probable, the original conversation took place in Aramaic or Hebrew, there would not have been any difference expressed.
