Population Three Stars

Population three stars are made of only big bang stuff hydrogen and helium. If you want to form a planet on which aliens can actually arise then you're going to need something more than hydrogen and helium for those aliens to exist on. Helium is the least reactive stuff in the entire universe so could you make an alien at a hydrogen not really hydrogen bond with itself? It seems to me that it's not the smoking gun we're not going to say yep there we go population three has definitely been seen it's just a big question mark.
