The Crown Jewels

The modern crown jewels is a collection of items gathered over 800 turbulent years. Consisting of 100 objects decorated with 23,000 gemstones, the collection is still held at the Tower of London. The oldest piece survived the purge that followed Charles I's execution and made its way back to the tower. It plays an important role in the 21st century coronation of King Charles III. But why did one thief put the crown jewels down his trousers? Which king managed to lose his own crown? And why is one diamond so controversial that it is not invited to the coronation?
