The Effects of the Depression on German Politics

After the First World War, German politics consisted of small parties on the left and the right. As the Weimar coalition continued to be in power, support for more moderate parties began to wane. The Communists and National Socialists both saw drastic increases in support during the Depression. Unemployment was just one of the many contributing factors to the shift in political support.
