The Importance of Intrinsic Motivation

School these days has completely squashed so much of our kids' desire for learning. When we're turning the classroom into a game show and you're getting points for the auction at the end of the month or whatever, different kind of incentive systems are being set up. The ultimate form of motivation is where you do something just for the joy of it. And I hate to say that school mostly doesn't do that. But we have a system that is outside of many teachers. There are some teachers who work within the system to do it, but it takes so, so much effort. We create an environment that is motivating. That satisfies the basic needs the children have to thrive.
