Introduction

Most hard drives have a life span of three to five years. Cold retention periods are absolutely not great for solid state drives. If you're trying to do cold data storage on solid state, i would recommend checking it pretty thoroughly, at least every six months. A spinning drive might have a better chance of in that, not just might, almost certainly will. But if you're not actively reading every single block that has been put on your PC then there's no way of getting that done for you.
