What Works for the South Was Contraptions
Six out of the eight confederate ships got sunk, blew up, were grounded or got captured. Snipers and lumberjacks stopped one union expedition cold along the yazoo river when they were trying to get to vicksburg. The most effective thing they had was the mines, or, as they called them, the torpedoes.
