Concentration, the way i was taught traditionally in monasteries, is kind of the first thing to do. So i pick a place to watch the breath. The two places i recommend to students are either the ring of the nostrils, which is highly sensitive, or the pit of the belly, which is very grounding. You can learn a lot about where your awareness typically goes by just noticing and meditation.
