There's something compassionate in allowing the dream ego to have some distance from the narrative because it is so painful. I can imagine he's a one year old boy, and the mother experiences a heart breaking trauma. Bonding with a baby is intense, and the sudden loss is just simply devastating. So here is a family trauma, undoubtedly. And I'm thinking too, it's significant that they were traveling. You're not home, you're not grounded, you're somehow in between. There's kind of an echo, perhaps in the dream of this distance,. as if he's watching a film with this Japanese actress in it.
