I love that idea of truly falling in love with the world around us. History isn't always pretty but the world is much bigger than human history. That's why I talk about cosmology and the earth and these bigger realities that are part of our world. So we're learning through a tough time of history now but that sentence from Derek Walcott comes back to me all the time: "The fate of poetry is the following of the world in spite of history" The implication is okay and then we can remake history. We can do history differently, as Muhammad was teaching.
