The Difference Between Zone Two and Maximum Fat Oxidation

There seems to be some debate as to where zone two lies. Alan Cousins suggests that it is the intensity slightly above the first increase in lactate, whereas Sam Millard suggests he would aim for the zone between first increase and maximum fat oxidation. We've even seen with runners that we can see in a two hour run that their fat oxidation is increasing across that time. And then even though that's happening at the end of the two hour run, their lactate is increasing a little bit. Both are going on better fat oxidation. But at the same time now they're getting fatigued and starting to recruit some of these fast twitch fibers and they get a little bump up and blood lactate
