Extracorporeal Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation for Cardiac Arrest
Cardiac arrest affects upwards of 600,000 people annually in the US. Mortality rates staggered with only 10 to 12% serving out of hospital cardiac arrest and 25 to 35% surviving in-hospital cardiac arrest. ECPR is recommended as a rescue therapy for select patients when conventional resuscitation has not restored spontaneous circulation. Registries report only less than 2% of patients were eligible to receive ECPR.
