#138 – Yaron Brook: Ayn Rand and the Philosophy of Objectivism

Lex Fridman Podcast

CHAPTER

What Is Subjectivism?

The objectivism was born out of the later parts of Alice Schrogden's philosophy. It kind of goes, Hawkins back to Aristotle, law of identity. A is A and you can wish it to be B, but wishes do not make something real. Our tool to know reality is reason - our senses integrate information we get from our senses into new knowledge. We don't have a collective mind. There's no collective consciousness. Only individuals reason,. Just in the same way that only individuals can eat. Nobody can eat for me. And therefore nobody can think for me. But so we all think for ourselves... Every individual is responsible for themselves.
