In 1926, Gramsci becomes one of the key figures in the opposition to fascism. He also goes to Moscow and is for a number of years the Italian representative of the Italian party to the Communist International. The notebooks that he writes in literally in those black school notebooks that school children had, the 33 of them, end up being the thousands of pages later published, edited, and understood.
