DNA Analysis in the Cold Case Unit of the Los Angeles Police Department
In 2001, the LAPD found that a cold case unit and they started combing through. I think it was 9,000 unsolved murders that had been committed in LA between 1960 something and the late 90s. Sherry's case was flagged in 2003 and a request was made for DNA analysis to be done on evidence in that case. One of the heroes in the story is a criminalist at the LAPD crime lab. She tracked down the bite marks swab, which was in the corner, space been freezer for 20 some years.
