maladaptive daydreaming is a form of escapism whereby a person spends an excessive amount of time daydreaming. It's especially common as a coping mechanism amongst people who have mental health conditions like anxiety or ADHD. Mal Adaptive Daydreaming can actually be a subtle symptom of ADHD especially among girls and women because symptoms are expressed differently in this group of people.
