I was thinking about Italy because I think Stalin played a similar role in the Italian communist party. He more or less told the communist, the Ljati and so on to stop thinking about communism and revolution and just follow the democratic path. And I wondered if Stalin had had his say in the GDR, the kind of the socialist part of it might have been in question,. It might have turned out to just be a liberal social democratic republic like Western Germany.
