The Death of El Matavira Hitas
Since 1998, 44 elderly women have been strangled to death in Mexico City. The victims had all registered with the state government's social welfare program for senior citizens known as CIVALA. Governor Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador refused to accept that there was a serial killer active and blamed it on his political opponents. By October 2005, seven more elderly women had lost their lives. El Matavira Hitas is believed to be behind these deaths.
