The Degradation of Transit in Roxbury
The new line is about half a mile away in most areas. It ran through less densely populated areas, so it was less useful. The neighborhoods it ran through were generally whiter and more affluent than the surrounding neighborhood. So another blow to the neighborhood served by the orange line was the temporary suspension of the Green Line E branch to Forest Hills in 1985. This begins a classic elevated railway story.
