Every experience i had of the barbers was of them commenting on my hair. And it was this reaction which told me i couldn't be who i wanted to be where. People get frustrated when they ask you where you're from and you don't have a one word or one line answer, when it's more complicated than that. There's this thing people talk about in child development which comes from lacon the mirror stage. But actually, the way lacon talks about it, it's not where you see yourself, it's where you recognize yourself as other. So you simultaneously see yourself, but you are aware of yourself, the kind of like surface of what you look like. I
