Mina, a young girl who falls in with some Bolsheviks. Her family panic and get her out of there before things can go very badly wrong. She retains for the rest of her life this sort of element of sympathy for communist ideas. The novel's dominant themes are how easy it is to get stuck in place or in a society. And I was really interested in that portrait of the suburbs.
