Introduction
The icelandic language is spoken by about 320 thousand people, most of them in iceland. It evolved from a western norse dialect after norwegians settled in iceland towards the end of the ninth century. In 17 80 students proposed a policy of linguistic purism to protect icelandiclanguage from words from other languages such as danish, french and english. These organizations are tasked with advisingon language, providing guide lines and dealing with questions from the public. They also decide new vocabulary in icelandic. This episode is the first of a pair about the icelandic Language that challenges its currently facing.
