The Salad After the Main Course

Having salad after the main course is regarded as a somewhat old fashioned tradition in italy these days, also in france and other parts of europe. It's also common in italy to put out some salad with the contorny, the side dishes. So you might eat the salad as you eat the pasta and the meat or the fish. This is in contrast to contemporary united states restaurant culture, where most common practice is to have the salad first, then the main meal. The mince with the check tradition has faded significantly over my lifetime.
