The Importance of Visual Design in Portfolios

The visual design of the website itself and not just the work you're showing off can be incredibly important. I know there are some hiring managers who are quite anti that sort of thing maybe because their job is not so focused on visual design. They just want to read about the decisions a person has made, find out how they think. Some people see a portfolio and if they see any problems with the design of the portfolio or the website itself they make assumptions about how capable you are. It feels like the container for your work needs to be the best thing about it to some people.
