How to Help Oysters Find New Homes

With the reefs dying, oysters are having trouble finding new homes. Researchers decided to see if they could help oysters find new homes by playing oyster song from a healthy reef in South Australia. The results were even bigger than the researchers ever could have dreamed. Around 6,000 more oysters per square foot were drawn to the restoration sites after playing the oyster song compared to before. And over the next five months, more than four times that number arrived as well.
