Gravity redshifts the light. If you adjust outside the event horizon it did the same thing. You can try to point your laser out of the black hole and see if anybody gets the signal. They won't. Why not? Because it's climbing out of the gravitational well that the black hole is. And so that's what would happen to the light. To the this was only about light or did they also ask about time?
