The Importance of Attorney Client Privilege
No state law requires a defense attorney to report suspected child abuse if he learns about such abuse from his client. This is part of a confidentiality privilege that's existed for a long time in the law called attorney client privilege. Stopping abuse is important but it's not worth overturning one of the fundamental components of our justice system, says John Avlon.
