The Catharsis of Emotional People

Aristotle was talking about people influenced by pity and fear. Bernays thought that this is what we should use to make sense of what the poetics is saying. What tragedy offers is an outlet for these people, who are always sort of in this emotional state,. In the theatre, they get a release. They get to feel the emotions that they're inclined to feel - at least for a time. So it's an outlet for people who are afflicted by this kind of morbid tendency to these emotions.
