"I certainly didn't want to walk around with race," she says. "My mother ended up buying, you guys have never probably seen this, but maybe at a museum of a roller ringer when clothes would come out of the washing machine." She used hot patches of army blankets and cut them up and put them on her legs. It was something that very few people were even thinking about doing.
