The timestamp must be incremented in some way that it's not decreasing. Sequential means that you have to increment by one all the time. It is not possible because different notes go at different speeds. This is a logical clock, there is no need for synchronization. I think that's a novel approach taking advantage of the dependency set rather than having to have the whole graph. And relying on the timestamp is very intuitive as well.
