Newton could predict very accurately the shape in which they would fly, parabola. But he had no clue why the grape was green and the hazelnut was brown. Then came Maxwell's equations and gave us all sorts of math for colors and light. And then came quantum mechanics that explained actually why the hazel nut is hard and the grape is soft. We've now gone from after the standard model of particle physics to one where it can be applied to most of the aspects of the world around us.
