Saladin was cast as sort of them the honorable non christian opponent, a whoa, had displayed christian knightly virtues despite being an infidel. A story circulated in the late middle ages that was commonly repeated tt that saladin had actually secretly converted to christianity on his death bed. Ah, that's not true, or certainly there is no evidence that that happened.
