The Evolution of Quants
I think that Quants shops got started as quant shops. It wasn't like quants went to work for a large institution all the time. A lot of them are hired from Academia and always have Hired from physics and math departments. Because these are the people who are used to thinking about the world as kind of a thing that you can model and a stream of data That you can work with. I don't necessarily think that quants have changed too much I think that what they work on has changed But but it's really hard to know because of all the secret secrecy in finance.
