Introduction
Amazon's move to a services-oriented architecture started in 2004. The Gang of Four released the Agile Manifesto, which pretty much laid out what became Agile Development. When we needed a subscription billing service, or when we needed to do subscription billing, rather than try and just add it to existing payment systems, using this new model, we decided to build it as a service.
