Brahim's father had joined the french army to support his family. He worked as a mechanic and never even used the gun he ad been issued with. Brahim was one of the lucky ones, but can still remember the pain when his father at last returned home and called him a traitor. In the new independent algeria, harkes were seen as collaborators. It's believed as many as 80 thousand were killed.
