The Importance of Diversity in Journalism
The report looked at the over-representation of Mardi and crime figures in New Zealand news. It asked: To what extent does a lack of diversity in our newsrooms contribute to some inadequacies in our crime coverage? Part of the answer is employing more Mardi journalists who understand how Mardi better, because we're not very good at it. The media environment is difficult because media do need clicks, right? So you've got your battling against that as well.
