The Importance of Compromise in Politics
A can no longer be committed to X as actually being the thing that will work and solve the problem, because they've learned that it fails. So then everyone can do their best to implement Y. Now, Y might very well fail as well, but at least we're learning things. We're not ruling out random things that no one thought was a good idea in the first place. And that's why compromise is bad, especially in politics. Many people believe in this idea of just ramming through any old thing, so that something at least is getting done. Government should be restrained from doing too much, because it tends to do damage when it does anything at all.
