Stem cells were in a bad state where they didn't even look like stem cells anymore. So we created, we bioengineered microenvironment with peg hydrogels and we could modulate then the stiffness of the material so that we could maintain the stem cells. We made a material that was exactly the modulus of a healthy young tissue. And lo and behold the stem cells could be maintained in culture. It tells us that stem cells care just like we do about what beds they're on.
