Beats headphones were a huge success, but the music industry was still struggling against illegal file sharing. Jimmy wanted to get ahead of the changes and make sure the people who had always been most important to him weren't siloed away from new opportunities that were opening up. Beats offered playlists curated by artists and DJs, rather than by algorithms. In 2014, Jimmy and Dre sold Beats to Apple for $3 billion.
