How to Set the Threshold of Credulity Too High
In the seventeenth and eighteenth century, new scientific academies received reports of stones falling from the sky. The academicians resolutely refused to credit such reports. They dismissed them as superstitions of peasants since it was mostly peasants who were witnessing them. Was it unreasonable of them to be credulous about stories of stones fall from the sky? This is a really difficult question,. We live in a moment now where we are once again in perplexity about credulity and incredulity and where to set the threshold.
