Is a Shellfish Allergy a Contraindication for Contrast Imaging?

Asymptomatic bacteria is something it's a choosing wisely topic. 60% of radiologists and 80% of cardiologists do ask their patients about shellfish allergies. The rate of significant contrast allergies are extremely low, less than 1% in the 0.1%, 0.2% range. Make sure you pre-medicate the patient so that they don't have an allergic reaction again because someaphylactoid type reactions can turn out to be not IgE mediated.
