What Is a Conflict Free Replicated Data Type?

The CRDT name actually is interesting because it's had a multiple, multiple different kind of answers to what the acronym stands for. Currently it's known as a conflict free replicated data type. But previously, this is kind of a generalization of two different design spaces that were kind of came together. So there was one group in Portugal and another group in France collaborating with a different university in Portugal actually.
