Should We Be Taking Control Away From Local Government?
We have about forty thousand general purpose local governments, o a city or a county that kind of has broad purview over lots of things. 85 % of those are for cities or counties with fewer than ten thousand residents. So it's not crazy to have local governments doing a bunch of stuff that mostly impacts the people in the immediate surrounding area. But i think we need to do a better job of aliging the incentives of local governments with sort of regional economies,. and thinking about how they address the needs of poor people.
